Tensions within NATO are flaring up after the US President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on key European allies. In a blunt exchange with reporters, Trump signaled he could pull US troops not just from Germany—but also Spain and Italy, accusing them of being “absolutely horrible” and offering no real support during the Iran conflict. Trump claimed the US stood strong alone against Iran, while NATO partners refused to step in—even though they rely heavily on critical routes like the Strait of Hormuz. He also reignited controversy over US involvement in Ukraine, criticizing past financial support and questioning why America should continue backing allies who “were not there when needed.”
