A firing incident at a wedding ceremony in Jammu and Kashmir triggered panic after a man allegedly opened fire near National Conference president Farooq Abdullah. Police said the accused, identified as Kamal Singh, approached the leader from close range and discharged a shot before being immediately overpowered by people present at the venue. Videos circulating online showed the attacker being thrashed soon after he was caught. Authorities confirmed that he was taken into custody. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah later said his father had a “very close shave,” crediting the close protection team for deflecting the shot and preventing a potentially serious security incident. Investigations into the motive and possible security lapse are underway.
