Opposition MPs in the Rajya Sabha have submitted a fresh notice seeking the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging “proven misbehaviour.” Backed by 73 MPs, the motion includes nine new charges ranging from alleged partisan conduct in enforcing the Model Code of Conduct to administrative lapses and controversial interactions with political parties. The opposition has also raised concerns over alleged voter deletions in West Bengal and inaction on complaints against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address during elections. The move comes after earlier notices were rejected, setting up a renewed political confrontation over the Election Commission’s functioning.
