At the 32nd Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial Lecture in Delhi, former Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud reflected on the growing interconnectedness of global events and their far-reaching consequences. He said developments in conflict zones like the Gulf can ripple through energy markets in India and Indonesia and even influence political outcomes in countries like the United States. Chandrachud cautioned that the world is increasingly operating on “transactional ethics,” where decisions are driven by bargaining power rather than moral responsibility. Drawing a contrast, he invoked Lal Bahadur Shastri’s legacy of integrity and selfless leadership, stressing the importance of acting rightly even when it comes at a personal cost.
