'Golden' from 'KPop Demon Hunters' creates Oscar History! Becomes first K-Pop song to win Best Original Song

The animated film 'KPop Demon Hunters' made history at the 98th Academy Awards, with its hit track 'Golden' winning the Oscar for Best Original Song, becoming the first K-pop song ever to take home the award.

This was the second win for the film, which also took home the Best Animated Feature. Directed by Korean-Canadian filmmaker Maggie Kang, the song and the film was a favourite to win the Oscar after sweeping all the awards in the two categories all award season, beginning with the Golden Globes and Critics' Choice.





“Thank you so much to the Academy,” EJAE started her speech, holding back tears. “This award is not about success, it's about resilience.”

'Golden' beat Diane Warren for 'Dear Me' from 'Diane Warren: Relentless', Raphael Saadiq and Ludwig Göransson for 'I Lied to You' from 'Sinners', Nicholas Pike for 'Sweet Dreams of Joy' from 'Viva Verdi!' and Nick Cave and Bryce Dessner for 'Train Dreams' from 'Train Dreams'.

'Golden' had already broken barriers in the music industry before its Oscars triumph. The track dominated global music charts and previously made history by becoming the first K-pop song to win a Grammy Awards trophy for Best Song Written for Visual Media.

Released by streaming giant Netflix, the film follows a K-pop girl group descended from a long line of demon slayers who must balance their lives as global pop stars while secretly protecting the world from supernatural threats. Since its release, the film has emerged as a global phenomenon, topping streaming charts around the globe.
