“That globalist stooge”: Podcaster Russell Brand shocks TPUSA crowd with blunt comment about Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau
“But Justin Trudeau?”, that one line grabbed the loudest reaction at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest this week. English comedian and podcaster Russell Brand took the stage on Thursday and surprised many by speaking openly about his ex-wife Katy Perry, her reported link to former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and his own views on politics and faith. While talking about belief and personal change, Brand suddenly shifted to his past marriage. He said he still cares about Perry but could not hide his shock over the rumors involving Trudeau. His words quickly spread online, becoming one of the most talked-about moments from the event.
Brand was clear that his comment was not meant to attack Perry personally. Instead, he used humor and sharp words to express how unexpected the situation felt to him. The crowd reacted loudly as Brand mixed jokes, politics, and personal history in a way only he can. AmericaFest, hosted by Turning Point USA, featured several big conservative voices this year. But Brand’s speech stood out because it blended his private life with his public beliefs, making it both emotional and controversial.
While on stage, Russell Brand said he was fine with Katy Perry moving on with actor Orlando Bloom, but the idea of Justin Trudeau caught him off guard.
“Look, Katy Perry, I was married to her. I love her still, and I’m glad that her mom’s in the room to hear me say this,” Brand said. “I was okay with Orlando Bloom, but Justin Trudeau? Come on, man! Don’t put me in a category with that guy! That globalist stooge.”
Russell Brand and Katy Perry married in 2010 and divorced in 2012. According to People, Brand filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. Perry later began dating Orlando Bloom in 2016. They got engaged in 2019 and welcomed a daughter in 2020, but earlier this year, they ended their engagement.
On December 6, Perry shared photos from a Tokyo trip on Instagram where she appeared with Justin Trudeau, sparking fresh dating rumors.
Brand also spoke about Trudeau stepping down earlier this year. On his podcast, Brand criticized Trudeau’s pandemic policies and said, “The way that he used wokeism as a means to assert social control.”
During the same speech, Brand pushed back on comments made by Ben Shapiro, saying it is important to talk to people with different views. He mentioned conversations with Candace Owens and others, stressing shared faith.
Brand praised Donald Trump, saying he “performed near miracles in office,” but also criticized Trump’s lack of filter, especially regarding comments about Rob Reiner. Toward the end, Brand remembered Charlie Kirk, calling him an inspiration and revealing that Kirk personally invited him to speak at AmericaFest.
