Agra: Five people drowned in separate incidents in Mathura and Firozabad districts, triggering large-scale search operations by police, SDRF teams and local divers, officials said on Tuesday.
In the latest incident, a 20-year-old BSc student, Aman Kashyap, drowned in a canal under Firozabad North police station limits on Tuesday. DSP Amreesh Kumar said the body has been sent for postmortem, and the family has been informed.
Around 2 pm on Monday, 32-year-old Nitin Singh drowned while bathing at Jugal Ghat with his cousins Himanshu and Pawan in Mathura’s Vrindavan. Witnesses said the cousins raised an alarm after Nitin slipped into deep water. “Boatmen and Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC) flood personnel joined the rescue operation, and his body was recovered on Tuesday,” Mathura Sadar DSP PP Singh said. Singh ran a grocery store in Bhuteshwar area of Mathura.
Last week, three men drowned near the Yamuna bridge in Sehat village under Mathura’s Baldev police station area. Police said brothers Ahle Hasan (20) and Aansu (22), residents of Raya in Mathura, were bathing in the river when they began to drown.
Seeing them struggle, David Singh, a resident of Agra, jumped into the river to rescue them, but was also swept away.
SHO Pushpendra Kumar said SDRF teams and local divers were rushed to the spot after receiving information. “Ahle Hasan’s body was recovered on Monday, while the bodies of Aansu and David were recovered on Tuesday after an overnight search operation,” said DSP Mathura Shweta Verma. Police said the brothers worked as e-rickshaw drivers, while David was employed as a silver jeweller in Agra.
