Agra: Three days after a woman's body was found dug out of her grave at Fatehpur Sikri, another incident of desecration of a grave has come to light in Bah tehsil of Agra.
Claimed to be older than two centuries, the graveyard locally known as ‘Gore Kabristan’ in Naugaon village came into the limelight after one of the graves was reportedly dug up to a depth of several feet by miscreants looking for treasure.
As per locals, the graveyard located in a dense forest area is often visited by miscreants and tantriks. On Monday afternoon, one of the largest and most prominent graves in the cemetery was found to be badly damaged with miscreants having dug up a trench of nearly eight feet around it.
Lakhan Singh, a local said, “There is a rumour that beneath the graves there is treasure. Probably this may have triggered the hunt which resulted in one of them being dug up and disturbed.”
Speaking to TOI, sub divisional magistrate Umashankar said, “I’m aware about the incident. I have asked the station in-charge of Chitrahat police station to probe the matter and submit a report.”
When contacted, Arun Kumar, SO of Chitrahat under whom Naugaon village falls, denied any foul play and said, “The grave has sunk in and it’s the only explanation for the incident.”
