SURAT: Police are still looking for the accused behind the gruesome murder of estate broker Jayesh Patel, allegedly hacked to death by one Ramlakhansing Tiwari, on Friday.
Tiwari killed Patel with a single blow of an axe in a half-constructed apartment near Prachi Complex in City Light area between 4 pm to 4.30 pm on Friday, according to inspector B D Tandel of Umra police station.
Patel’s friend Amrutsing Tiwari, who was away and shares the apartment, discovered the murder. After returning from a movie, he saw Patel lying in a pool of blood and Ramlakhan lounging on a nearby sofa in a completely inebriated state. He found a blood-soaked axe nearby and asked Tiwari about it. When Tiwari claimed to own it, Amrutsing rushed to police, but the accused, who is originally from Uttar Pradesh, escaped before police turned up.
Police said of late Patel was struggling with his construction and real estate business. Last week Tiwari’s father Dineshsing fatally fell from the terrace of Patel’s apartment in City Light area. A case of accidental death was registered.
Tiwari, however, felt suspicious and came to Surat about six days ago and befriended Patel. On Friday, the two consumed liquor. Later, Tiwari scythed Patel’s skull into two with an axe. He lingered on the spot as he was too drunk to walk. Presently Amrutsing, who had gone to watch movie, returned and discovered the crime. “He aroused Ramlakhan and enquired about the murder. When he found the axe belonged to Ramlakhan he went to police. In the meantime Tiwari fled,” police said.
Inspector Tandel said that the cause could be known only after Tiwari is arrested.Police said Patel with three other partners namely Raju Desai, Jakie Godhrawala and Bhikhu Kabat had developed a site but Surat Municipal Corporation refused permission for it.
