‘Mini Disneyland’ to come up in Ahmedabad soon

“The theme park will be like a mini Disney Park and have different avenues of entertainment at one junction. We have had talks with Manmohan Shetty of Adlabs and Vithal Kamath about the theme park and announcement of the project will be made during Vibrant Gujarat summit in January next year,” said Vipul Mittra, principal secretary, department of tourism, Gujarat on the sidelines of Travel and Tourism fair at GU convention hall here on Friday. The theme park will come up on 50-acre plot near Science City. The proposed land is lying vacant and is under science and technology department.Adlabs has earlier developed ‘Imagica’ theme park near Pune and according to Mittra the proposed theme park will have similar facilities as in Pune. In 2011, with a lot of fanfare Gujarat government had announced setting up of Rs 9,500 crore theme park in Suvali near Surat along with Atlanta Tourism ventures but the project was called off due to various issues.Theme park in Ahmedabad is second such attempt. Sources said that with land being not a problem, government plans to put the project on fast track. The theme park will offer entertainment, dining, shopping and many other services. “When it comes to entertainment, people in Ahmedabad either go for shopping or watch a movie. With this theme park, people will have all options of entertainment at one place,” added Mittra.The tourism department is in advance talks with Adlabs and Orchid Group and is expected to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) during the Vibrant Gujarat summit.
