Heavy rains lash Mumbai: Extensive waterlogging triggers traffic chaos, flight delays, IndiGo issues advisory; IMD warns of more showers in next 2 days

NEW DELHI: Mumbai has been experiencing heavy rainfall since the Monday morning, leading to severe waterlogging in several parts of the city including Sion’s Gandhi Market area and the Eastern Express Highway. Traffic near Vile Parle Airport has also been disrupted. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts continued light to moderate showers in Mumbai and its suburbs in the coming hours, with a “Heavy Rainfall” warning issued for August 26-27.Authorities have urged commuters to plan their travel accordingly due to expected road congestion and flooding in low-lying areas. Rail services on both the Central Railway Main and Harbour lines are currently running smoothly, but delays may occur if waterlogging worsens along the tracks.Also See:Mumbai Weather Today Mumbai airport is also affected, with private airline IndiGo reporting minor flight delays due to continuous rain. IndiGo has advised passengers to check flight status before traveling and to allow extra time for road travel. Following the heavy rainfall from August 15 to 23, the BMC removed 952 metric tons of waste from several beaches across the city, including Girgaon, Dadar-Mahim, Juhu, Versova, Madh-Marve, and Gorai, deploying around 380 staff and six machines for the cleanup.
