ALLAHABAD: The former vice president, Allahabad University Students Union, and senior Congress leader and PCC member Raghunath Dwivedi has been expelled from the Congress party for six years for his alleged act of indiscipline before All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary, Oscar Fernandes during the latter's visit to the city on Tuesday.
A communique issued by the zonal president, Vivek Kumar Singh stated that Dwivedi had used derogatory language against candidates of National Students Union of India (NSUI) contesting elections at Allahabad University in the presence of senior party leaders including Fernandes. This amounts to indiscipline which is against party norms.
Singh said the entire incident took place in the presence of party functionaries and leaders along with student leaders, and was promptly published in newspapers. This sets aside the need to seek an explanation from the suspended party leader.
