Electric stove demand spikes amid fears of LPG supply disruption
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Concerns over a possible disruption in LPG supply amid the ongoing Israel-USA-Iran conflict have triggered a sharp surge in demand for electric stoves in the city over the past two days, with both households and commercial establishments opting for electric cooking appliances as a precaution against potential LPG shortages, traders said. The rush intensified after reports emerged that some hotels were experiencing operational challenges due to concerns about fuel availability. With these reports spreading quickly, many families began purchasing electric stoves as a backup.Retailer Dipesh Agrawal said daily sales of electric stoves had nearly doubled over the last three days. "Earlier, a shop would typically sell three to eight units a day. Now, that number has jumped to around 15 to 20," he said.Wholesalers reported a similar trend, noting nearly a 50% rise in demand, reflecting growing public anxiety about a possible domestic LPG shortfall. Trader Mausuf Khan said infrared electric stoves were the most sought-after as they work with almost all types of utensils, unlike induction cooktops that require compatible cookware.According to Rajkumar Soni, owner of Soni Agency, the electric stove market had expanded significantly in just a few days.
"Earlier, we would sell around 40-50 electric stoves a month. That number is likely to touch 150," he said., adding that customers were specifically seeking models that support all types of cookware.Commercial establishments are also stepping up purchases of electric griddles, hot plates and ovens. Trader Girish Bora said high-wattage appliances, though more expensive, were preferred by eateries and small food businesses.Officials, however, said there was no immediate LPG shortage in the district. District supply officer Pravin Fulari said the three LPG suppliers currently hold around two days' stock. "About 20,130 cylinders are supplied daily across the district. Fresh stocks usually arrive within five to six days. At present, the Nashik depot is supplying around 140-150 tonnes of LPG," he said.Fulari said the district had 74 LPG agencies, noting that the refill interval had recently been increased from 15 to 25 days — another factor traders believe may be driving the sudden spike in demand for electric stoves.
