Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: An offence has been registered against a watchman of a private firm for allegedly beating a stray dog to death in Parbhani.
The incident occurred in the industrial area at around 10.45 pm on Jan 25. Following an alert, animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals India (PETA India) coordinated with Parbhani police to ensure registration of an FIR.
PETA India Associate Manager of the Cruelty Response Team, Saloni Sakaria, said the dog often stayed near a private hotel where it was fed by the staff. "The watchman grabbed the dog by its hind legs and thrashed the canine to the ground to death," she said. The accused also allegedly assaulted the hotel's watchman when he objected to the act and threatened him with dire consequences. He is further accused of damaging hotel property, including a dustbin, worth around Rs500. Based on a complaint filed by the hotel's general manager, the police on Jan 28 registered an offence.
