Pilibhit: Eleven people, including three women, were charged for allegedly beating a 25-year-old farmer to death in Kishanpur village under Deuria Kotwali police station in the district on Sunday.
The victim, Hari Om, was assaulted, along with his brother-in-law Jasveer, with sticks and sharp-edged weapons around 5.30 pm on Sunday when they were on their way to the village market. The two sustained serious injuries and were first taken to a community health centre from where they were referred to Autonomous State Medical College.
Hari Om succumbed to his injuries around 8.30 pm, while Jasveer is undergoing treatment.
In his complaint, Hari Om's father, Banwari Lal, alleged that the accused had long-standing enmity with his family over personal issues. He claimed that the assailants had been lying in wait midway to the market with the intention of attacking his son.
SHO Gautam Singh said the two sides were third-generation relatives, descended from two brothers, and had an old dispute over ancestral agricultural land.
A case has been registered against the accused under sections 191(2) (rioting), 191(3) (rioting while armed with a deadly weapon), 352 (intentional insult), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 109(1) (attempt to murder) and 103(1) (murder) of BNS.
