Bengaluru South corporation unveils action plan, Begur chosen for pilot
Bengaluru: Begur, one of the city’s heritage localities, has been selected as the pilot area for Bengaluru South City Corporation’s new ‘Resilient Neighbourhood’ initiative. Under this, Begur will see implementation of Ward Climate Action Plan (WCAP), which has been conceived after stages of mapping and consultation with ward stakeholders. The announcement was made during a workshop organised by the corporation for its engineers and officials to prepare the current year’s action plan. Held at HSR Layout Thursday, the event marked a shift from the conventional style of budget implementation towards a more practical and impact-oriented approach. The seven-point action plan focused on pedestrian infrastructure, elimination of garbage blackspots, safer roads, public spaces, climate resilience, protection of vulnerable sections and community participation. Key proposals included building and maintaining walkable footpaths, eliminating garbage blackspots, installing bollards and pedestrian crossings, improving street lighting and strengthening stormwater drain networks.
To address climate change and water scarcity, the corporation plans to promote rainwater harvesting, recharge wells, lake rejuvenation, scientific solid waste management, cool roofs and solar rooftops. Public spaces and green zones will also be expanded under the plan.BSCC commissioner KN Ramesh urged officials to adopt a “low investment, high impact” approach and ensure that public priorities guide expenditure. He also stressed the importance of faster grievance redressal and stronger citizen engagement in civic services.
