Kurukshetra: Kurukshetra police have arrested three accused in an online fraud case in which a victim was duped of Rs 1.8 lakh after being lured into promises of easy money via a dating app.
According to a police spokesperson, the case was registered following a complaint filed on April 25 by Sukhpreet Singh, a resident of Nalvi village in Kurukshetra. Businessman Sukhpreet reported that he creatyed his profile on a dating app on March 14, following which he received a friend request from a woman who initiated conversations with him over the phone.
The woman later introduced him to a website, claiming it offered opportunities to earn money.
Falling into the trap, the victim transferred Rs 1.8 lakh on different dates into bank accounts provided by the accused. After a few days, the woman switched off her phone, prompting the victim to realise he was defrauded.
On April 29, a police team conducted a raid and arrested the three accused account holders.
The accused — Sandeep Kumar and Sukhdev Singh, both residents of Arniwala in Fazilka district, Punjab, and Boota Singh, a resident of Thar Singhwala in Fazilka — were produced before the court on Friday. As per the court orders, Boota Singh has been remanded to three-day police custody, while Sandeep Kumar and Sukhdev Singh have been sent to judicial custody.
