4 kids die after brick kiln wall collapses in Hisar; police register case after 14 months
Hisar: Nearly 14 months after four children were killed in a wall collapse at a brick kiln in the Narnaund area of Hansi district on Dec 22, 2024, police have registered a case in the matter.According to police records, a GD Entry dated Dec 24, 2024 was recorded at Narnaund police station regarding a report of an unidentified body. The report stated that a wall inside a brick kiln at Dhanda Brick Kiln, Budhana Road, suddenly collapsed due to a strong gust of wind, trapping several children under the debris.
As per the statement of Bhagwan Das, a labourer originally from Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh who was working at the brick kiln when the incident occurred around 10.30pm on Dec 22, 2024. At the time, he and other family members were extracting baked bricks from the kiln. Due to the cold weather, the children of two labourer families were sleeping on cots inside the kiln area near the wall.Suddenly, a strong gust of wind caused the inner wall of the kiln to collapse. Several children sleeping nearby were buried under the falling bricks. Labourers present at the site rushed to rescue them and immediately took the injured to the govt hospital in Narnaund by ambulance.Doctors declared Suraj, Vivek and Nandini, children of Bhagwan Das, dead on arrival. Meanwhile, Nisha, Gauri and Himanshi, daughters of Murari, along with another relative, Rajesh, were referred to Civil Hospital Hisar for further treatment. During treatment, Nisha also succumbed to her injuries, while the remaining injured underwent treatment.In his statement to the police, Bhagwan Das said the accident occurred suddenly due to a strong wind and the collapse of the kiln wall, and that no one was responsible for the incident. He added that he and his relatives did not wish to initiate legal action against anyone.Police officials said that the statements were recorded on Dec 24, 2024, after the families of the labourers arrived and consultations were held with relatives and legal advisers.Initially, proceedings were initiated under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) relating to unnatural death. However, after verification and review of the case file by senior officers, the police registered an FIR under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Narnaund Police Station.
