Census 27: CM urges public participation for self-enumeration
Shimla: Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday completed his self-enumeration for the Census 2027 through the online portal – se.census.gov.in – and appealed to the people of Himachal Pradesh to actively participate in the exercise and complete their self-enumeration before June 15.
Sukhu said that the Census 2027 in the state would be conducted in two phases. The first phase, covering House Listing and Housing Census, will be carried out from June 16 to July 15, 2026. The second phase will focus on population enumeration. Population enumeration in snow-bound areas will be conducted from Sept 11 to 30, while the exercise in the rest of the state will take place from Feb 9 to 28, 2027.
Director, Census Operations, Deep Shikha Sharma, along with senior officials, briefed Sukhu about the features and procedures of the digital Census process. Sukhu said that the Census was a crucial national exercise that provided vital information on population, family conditions, housing, resources and access to public services.
He said the data collected through the Census served as the foundation for development planning and the formulation of welfare-oriented policies and programmes.
Sukhu said the Census would be conducted digitally, with enumerators and supervisors using mobile devices to collect data on houses and households.
