Hisar: Fatehabad police have arrested a head constable, a contractual driver and a woman for allegedly running a honeytrap and
extortion racket targeting unmarried youths on the pretext of marriage. The accused have been sent to judicial custody, while a departmental probe has been ordered against the constable and the driver, engaged through Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRN), has been dismissed from service.
ASI Vinod Kumar said a case was registered on the complaint of a youth from Dhani Thoba village, who alleged that around one-and-a-half months ago, he was lured with a marriage proposal by his neighbour and introduced to a woman named Ritu from MC Colony in Fatehabad.
The youth claimed that on May 6 night, Ritu invited him to a house in Fatehabad on the pretext of introducing him to her younger sister. However, later Ritu left the room, saying she did not want her husband to find out about the complainant's presence there, he said, adding that some policemen later entered the room, allegedly stripped him, recorded videos and threatened to implicate him in a minor's rape case before extorting money from him. He further alleged that the accused collected nearly Rs 3.5 lakh from him in multiple transactions.
The victim informed about the incident to his nephew, who serves as a home guard in Haryana Police. Following this, senior police officers were informed about the incident. The complainant was then called to Gurunanakpura police post, where his statement was recorded.
During investigation, the police arrested HUDA Chowki head constable Rakesh, driver Sunil Kumar and Ritu. Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman allegedly duped another youth of Rs 70,000 in a similar manner. Police also found that Ritu was highly active on social media platforms.
