CHANDIGARH: Amidst the raging Ruchika molestation case, news of another 14-year-old falling victim to wanton ways of the big and mighty rocked city on Thursday night, when police arrested Sector-49 industrialist Manjeet Singh Brar and booked his Mumbai-based friend, Pappu, for raping the minor over the last nine months.
On Friday, UT cops recorded the victim’s statement under Section 164 of CrPC in the district courts, which also sent Brar, 52, to eight days in police custody.
“The victim, belonging to a nearby village, had been hired as a domestic help in April 2008 by Brar for his daughter, Anupreet, who runs a dancing school in Mumbai,” said crime branch incharge, inspector Charanjeet Singh.
Brar allegedly began raping the girl in Chandigarh and later, continued to violate her at his daughter’s residence. Soon, Pappu too reportedly victimized the minor. “The accused also downloaded objectionable pictures of the victim on their computers in Mumbai,” said cops.
When the victim had arrived in city on December 27, 2009, Brar reportedly did not allow the girl to meet her family members. “The mother then forcibly obtained the victim’s custody on January 6,” said Singh. The distressed family soon approached UT SSP, SS Srivastva, who marked an inquiry.
