iRAD app training held to boost accident probe
Panchkula: In a move aimed at improving road safety and strengthening accident investigations, a training programme on the iRAD (Integrated Road Accident Database) app was held at the police commissioner’s office in Sector 4 Sunday.
Developed by the ministry of road transport and highways in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), the digital platform seeks to identify causes of road accidents and reduce fatalities through data-driven analysis. Project manager Ashish Gurung briefed police personnel on the app’s features and functioning.
Officials said the application can be used on mobile phones and computers, enabling police to upload accident details — including location, time, cause and information about victims — directly from the spot. The system is expected to speed up FIR registration and improve investigation efficiency.
The platform will also help identify accident-prone stretches, allowing authorities to take corrective steps such as better traffic management and installation of safety signage.
Personnel were trained in data entry, technical operations and reporting modules during the session. DCP (crime & traffic) Amrinder Singh said accurate data collection is critical for understanding accident patterns and taking timely preventive measures, adding that the app will make investigations more transparent while helping identify vulnerable zones.
