Hisar: The Hisar sessions court has sentenced Rahul alias Gogi of Barsi village, the main accused in the 2022 Hansi shooting case, to life imprisonment. Rahul was convicted of murder, robbery and illegal possession of arms.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1.80 lakh on Rahul.
The alleged weapon supplier, Naveen Gautam of Patloni Baldev village in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district, and a juvenile accused in the case were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
Additional Sessions Judge Alka Malik observed that the prosecution successfully established that on April 6, 2022, Rahul entered Sandeep's shop with the intention of robbing cash. When the victim resisted, the accused shot him with the intent to kill. The bullet hit Sandeep in the pelvic region, leading to his death later.
The court, however, granted relief to co-accused Naveen Gautam, stating that no direct or independent evidence was produced to prove that he supplied the country-made pistol used in the crime. The court clarified that a conviction could not be based solely on disclosure statements.
According to the prosecution, Sandeep was shot dead in the Hansi area on April 6, 2022. During the investigation, the police recovered a pistol, cartridges, blood samples and other forensic evidence from the crime scene. The post-mortem report and the FSL findings also played a crucial role during the trial.
The prosecution examined 20 witnesses, including doctors, forensic experts, police officials and eyewitnesses. Relying on the evidence and witness testimonies, the court held that the charges against Rahul were proved beyond a reasonable doubt.
