CHANDIGARH: A 32-year old woman from Uttar Pradesh was hacked to death using an axe by her husband at Daria in Industrial Area phase-1 in the wee hours of Saturday. The deceased was identified as Sabia Hussain.
Initial investigation revealed the accused, Sajid Hussain, attacked her with an axe on her forehead, neck, stomach and legs giving her around half a dozen injuries.
The axe — which was used in the crime — has been recovered.
Hussain was arrested and has confessed to the crime. "Hussain claimed that his wife was having an extramarital affair and it was the reason behind the crime. He also attempted suicide by consuming acid two ago, but he survived after a long treatment at PGI," said a policeman.
The couple had come to Chandigarh around two months ago for getting treatment at PGI and was staying at a rented accommodation in Daria. After killing his wife, Hussain had escaped from the crime scene and was later arrested Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26, from where he was planning to escape to UP.
A team of forensic experts visited the crime scene and collected samples for investigation. Hussain has two kids from his wife and the both are living in UP. Sabia's body has been kept in GMH-16 for postmortem examination, which will be conducted on Sunday. A case was registered at Industrial Area police station.
