Shimla: The weather department has forecast light rain in the mid-hills and snowfall in high-altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh, while issuing a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in parts of the state on May 16.According to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, light rain is likely at isolated places in the mid-hills, while some high hill areas may receive light rain and snowfall on Saturday. The Met has also issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds in parts of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Mandi districts on May 16.This month, between May 1 and 15, the state recorded an average 37 mm rainfall, which is 13% higher than the normal of 32.8 mm. The highest rainfall of 73.7 mm was recorded in Shimla, followed by 56.2 mm in Mandi, 55 mm in Kangra, 47.5 mm in Sirmaur, 45 mm in Kullu, 43.9 mm in Una, 41 mm in Hamirpur, 32.7 mm in Chamba, 31.8 mm in Bilaspur, 28.1 mm in Solan, 19.4 mm in Kinnaur, and 16 mm in Lahaul-Spiti.Meanwhile, the maximum temperatures remained below or around normal at most places in the state on Friday. Una recorded the highest maximum temperature of 37°C — 1.4°C below normal. Among the tourist destinations, Shimla recorded the maximum temperature of 24.6°C — 0.3°C above normal, and Manali's maximum temperature remained 24°C (1.2°C below normal).
