Shimla gets advanced health unit to detect and prevent disease outbreaks; will ensure justice for student killed in Mandi, says CM
Shimla: Himachal chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday inaugurated a metropolitan surveillance unit (MSU) at Boileauganj in Shimla to strengthen the public health system. Established at a cost of Rs 1.56 crore, the unit is equipped with modern technology to ensure early detection, prevention and control of infectious disease outbreaks in the city. Sukhu said the MSU will function as an early warning system, enabling swift action during health emergencies. In case of outbreaks or disasters, the unit will analyse data, generate alerts and inform hospitals for timely response. Such surveillance units exist in only 20 cities across India, making Himachal Pradesh the first hill state to adopt this advanced system.Developed through a joint effort of the National Health Mission, National Centre for Disease Control and Shimla Municipal Corporation, the MSU will monitor water, food, vector-borne and zoonotic diseases. It will also coordinate response strategies among departments, enhancing the city's preparedness. Later speaking to the media persons, the chief minister ensured justice for the family members of the 19-year-old female college student who was brutally murdered in Sarkaghat of Mandi district.
Terming it a shameful act for the entire society, he said the accused has been arrested and he has already directed the DGP to ensure that the culprit gets severe punishment as per law. To another question, Sukhu clarified that the state govt was only relocating the gynaecology wing from Kamla Nehru Hospital in Shimla to the IGMC, Shimla, in the larger interest of the patients and not the entire hospital. He also clarified that there is no such proposal to convert this hospital for MLAs' accommodation. MSID:: 130257099 413 |
