Hisar: A truck driver was burnt alive after two trucks collided head-on and caught fire on the South Bypass near Sector-33 in Hisar on Friday afternoon. The impact of the collision overturned both vehicles, triggering a massive blaze that engulfed the cabins within minutes.
The deceased was identified as Jagan, a resident of Chindar village in Fatehabad district. He was reportedly transporting crushed stone from Khanak in Tosham to Sirsa when the accident occurred. Jagan is survived by his wife and a 3-year-old son. His father Balbir Singh works as a labourer in the village.
According to police officials, diesel leakage after the collision is believed to have intensified the fire. Due to the severe impact, the cabin of Jagan's truck was badly crushed, leaving him trapped inside with no chance of escape. Fire brigade teams and police personnel rushed to the spot soon after receiving information about the accident. After a prolonged operation, firefighters managed to douse the flames. Rescue teams later used a cutter machine to slice through the mangled truck cabin to retrieve the charred body.
Officials said the body was completely burnt, and identification became possible only after some passers-by recognised the deceased.
Rescue workers stated that the truck cabin had collapsed inward during the collision, trapping the driver beneath the wreckage.
Police said the second truck was reportedly empty and had three occupants, including the driver, who allegedly fled the scene after the fire broke out. Investigators are now trying to trace them through the vehicle registration details. Preliminary investigation suggests that one of the trucks may have been travelling on the wrong side of the road, leading to the head-on collision. Sadar police station has initiated further investigation into the incident.
