Bathinda: Farm forums Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) observed the second death anniversary of farmer activist Shubkaran Singh (21) at various places across Punjab on Saturday. Shubkaran from Balloke village in Bathinda district was killed in firing at Khanauri morcha on Feb 21, 2024, when Haryana Police had stopped protesting farmers from moving towards Haryana to reach Delhi.
Farmers wanted to reach Delhi from two sides of Khanauri and Shambhu for protests demanding legal right of minimum support price on all crops as per C2+50% profit.

A bench of Punjab and Haryana high court on Sept 15, 2025, adjourned the petition sine die till the decision of case pending before the Supreme Court.
Farm organisation BKU Ekta Sidhupur affiliated to SKM NP held the anniversary programme at Balloke, native village of Shubkaran where other constituents of SKM NP also remained present.
KMM leaders while paying tributes to Shubkaran slammed both the BJP-led central government and AAP-led government in Punjab for not giving heed to the issues of the farmers. They demanded from the Punjab govt to tell why no action so far has been taken against those behind the killing of Shubkaran.
The farmers stated both the govts are not coming forward to accept the demands for which Shubkaran had to lay down his life.
They demanded MSP, scrapping of trade deals or at least keeping agriculture and dairy sectors out if these deals, not to go ahead with Electricity Bill, Seeds Bill, revive MGNREGA, the demands pertaining to central government and compensation for losses suffered by farmers during floods, compensation for demolitions at Khanauri, Shambhu morchas, cancellation cases for burning stubble and passing resolutions against water sharing and bills in state assembly.
The farm leaders said the way Bhagwant Mann government in Punjab has treated the farmer protests lately earlier this week by BKU Ekta Ugrahan is unacceptable as police resorted to tear gas shells to stop farmers from exercising their fundamental right of protests.
Giani Harpreet Singh, president, Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjit) in a social media post mentioned, "Humble tribute to young farmer Shubhkaran Singh Ballo, who was martyred by a police bullet at Khanauri border on Feb 21, 2024. Farmers who were peacefully protesting for their agricultural rights were stopped by the Haryana Govt, attacked with drones, and bullets were fired within Punjab's territory. The Punjab Government remained a silent spectator. On the occasion of the second anniversary of that young farmer's martyrdom, the Punjab Government should clarify what action has been taken so far on the FIR registered regarding his death."
