Hisar: A 65-year-old woman died after a fire broke out at her house in Nada village of Narnaund on Wednesday morning. The deceased, identified as Bimla Devi, succumbed to her injuries during treatment, while her son Navneet sustained serious burn injuries while attempting to rescue her.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 6 am when a fire suddenly broke out in a room of the house. Bimla Devi, who was bedridden due to a spinal ailment, was lying on a cot at the time. Her son was reportedly getting ready to leave for work. Police said the fire spread rapidly as a can of petrol kept inside the room caught fire, engulfing the entire area within minutes. Navneet's 5-year-old daughter was also present in the room, and raised an alarm on seeing the flames. Hearing her cries, Navneet rushed inside. While the child managed to move to a corner, Bimla Devi was already trapped in the blaze. Navneet tried to pull his mother out but suffered severe burns in the process. Neighbours rushed to the spot and shifted both victims to the Civil Hospital in Jind.
Given her critical condition, Bimla Devi was referred to PGIMS Rohtak, where she later died during treatment. Her post-mortem will be conducted on Thursday. Family members have attributed the fire to a short circuit, though police said an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause.
