Power thefts detected in surprise inspections at Avadi
Chennai: In a division-level mass raid conducted by the Chennai Enforcement Division of the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd, the enforcement squads detected 11 cases of power theft in the Avadi Division recently. The surprise inspections were carried out by enforcement teams from Chennai Central, Chennai North, Chennai West, Chennai South, Chengalpet, and Kanchipuram circles. The coordinated drive led to the identification of multiple instances of energy theft, resulting in financial loss to the power utility. An extra levy amount of 8.77 lakh was imposed on the consumers concerned as compensation for the loss incurred due to the stolen energy. According to officials, the consumers admitted to the offence and opted to compound the cases by remitting a sum of 36,000 to avoid criminal proceedings.
