CHENNAI: Police have detained a three-member gang that made away with 320g of gold jewellery worth 8 lakh from a jeweller at Korrukupet on Sunday. The three people were identified as Baghwan, Mahendran and Amar.
Mohanlal, who has jewellery shop on T H Road, and his friend Tejaram, who owns a shop at Netaji Nagar in Tondiarpet, used to exchange gold jewellery depending on demand they had to meet.
They would contact each other whenever they needed jewellery and send a person to collect the ornamnets.
The three men came to know of this exchange between the duo and hatched a plan. On Sunday, one of the gang members called up Mohalal posing as Tejaram, and said that he needed some pieces of jewellery. He said he would send a person to collect them.
Within an hour, the trio reached Mohanlal’s shop and collected 320g jewellery from him. The theft came to light when Tejaram came to his shop and Mohanlal asked him for money. Tejaram denied sending anyone to collect any jewellery. Mohanlal then checked the CCTV footage and lodged a complaint with the police. Based on the footage, police picked up the susupects from Korrukupet and detained them for questioning.
