Laborer killed in elephant attack in Krishnagiri

Krishnagiri: A labourer died after an elephant attacked him near Denkanikottai in Krishnagiri district on Saturday.The deceased has been identified as S Billappa, 50, a daily wage worker from Kandakanapalli village near Denkanikottai.Forest officials said he had gone to Kollapalli to collect empty liquor bottles lying on the ground, when a lone elephant hiding in the thicket attacked him. "Hearing Billappa's screams, locals tried to chase the elephant away. However, it trampled him and attacked him with its trunk, killing him on the spot," said a forest official from Denkanikottai forest range.On being alerted, Denkanikottai police and forest department officials reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Denkanikottai Government Hospital for a postmortem.Police have registered a case and are investigating further.
