Peelamedu residents want subway at rail crossing
COIMBATORE: With the road over bridge at the Peelamedu railway crossing all set for inauguration by chief minister Edapadi K Palanisami on December 3, local residents on Monday petitioned collector TN Hariharan complaining about the absence of a subway as per the design.
Residents led by RTI activist PV Gopal petitioned Hariharan saying that there was a subway in the design prepared by the Tamil Nadu government for the road over bridge.

“But, the subway has not been constructed while the flyover is ready for inauguration,” said Gopal.
In 2011, after a series of protests by the residents of Peelamedu, government allocated Rs 30.50 crore for the road over bridge.
Meanwhile, railway officials said the construction department of the southern railway is responsible for the subway.
“The subway, according to the design, will be made and installed here. It will be 7 feet heigh and 15 feet wide structure to accommodate light motor vehicles,” said Gopal.
