COIMBATORE: A deputy superintendent of police was found hanging at her official quarters in Thiruchengode in Namakkal district on Friday evening. According to police, the 27-year-old officer, R Vishnupriya, was unhappy about working in the force. She wanted to become a deputy collector, but her father, a retired police officer, reportedly compelled her to become a police officer, they said.
Vishnupriya left an eight-page suicide note, which was found in the room where she had hanged herself with her sari. A native of Kondur in Cuddalore district, she was posted in Thiruchengode a few months ago.
“We are not sure why she suddenly chose to end her life. We will inquire with her family and friends,” said K Shankar, inspector general of police, Coimbatore west zone.
Vishnupriya was on duty till 4pm on Friday. According to sources, she informed her colleagues that she was tired and was going home to rest. She was to return to work at 6pm.
As instructed, her driver went to pick her up from her quarters at 5.30pm and found Vishnupriya hanging from the ceiling fan.
Senior police officers rushed to the spot and shifted her body to hospital. Sources said Vishnupriya, in the suicide note, said she felt unfit to serve in the police department.
