Home minister’s visit only to laud BJP govt; no mention of corruption and crime: Cong

Dehradun: Congress state president Ganesh Godiyal on Saturday criticised the visit of Union home minister Amit Shah, calling it a "mere formality" that failed to address key issues in the state, including corruption, crime and the resort murder case.Raising 10 questions, Godiyal said, "Shah praised the BJP govt for completing four years in office but did not mention the Rishikesh resort murder case or the progress of the CBI probe." He claimed there had been no updates since the case was handed over to the CBI months ago.
"People of Uttarakhand want to know about the VIP involved, but facts are being hidden. There are several problems in Uttarakhand, but the home minister said nothing about them," he said. He also alleged rising corruption, deteriorating law and order, and involvement of ruling party members in a recruitment paper leak.He said that with BJP in power at both Centre and state, its leaders should address issues such as migration from hill areas and rising unemployment. He also questioned the provisions of the state's proposed Uniform Civil Code, asking how the law concerning live-in couples would benefit residents.Meanwhile, state unit's women's Congress president Jyoti Rautela attempted to march to Haridwar to submit a memorandum to Shah but was stopped by police. She said that women's safety and the law and order situation in the state were serious concerns.
