Dehradun: An FIR was registered at Dehradun’s Dalanwala police station against five people, including Uttarakhand Mahila Congress president Jyoti Rautela, for allegedly attempting self-immolation during a protest in support of nursing graduates.Police said the accused climbed an overhead water tank at the Parade Ground on Tuesday night to press the govt to fulfil the demands of the protesting nursing graduates.SP (city) Pramod Kumar said Rautela allegedly poured petrol on herself and threatened self-immolation, while members of the Nursing Ekta Manch blocked the road near the tank.“We took suo motu cognisance of the incident and registered an FIR under BNS sections 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 221 (obstructing a public servant in discharge of duty), 223 (disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant), 226 (attempt to commit suicide), and other relevant sections,” Kumar said.He said that administration officials managed to stop Rautela and the four others after assuring them that their demands would be forwarded to the concerned department. “On Wednesday, police convinced them to climb down from the water tank. However, their actions were unlawful,” Kumar said.“A probe has been launched, and the accused will soon be summoned for questioning,” Kumar said.
