1,000 lost phones returned under Operation Vishwas

New Delhi: Delhi Police busted an international smuggling racket that trafficked stolen devices to Bangladesh. Police also separately returned over 1,000 lost mobile phones to their owners under Operation Vishwas.Police said the central district team apprehended four men and recovered 116 high-end stolen or snatched mobile phones that were being illegally unlocked and routed to Bangladesh via Kolkata.
The accused, identified as Sameer (28), Salman (28), Dilshad Yasin Kureshi (33) and Ayaan (28), allegedly sourced expensive phones stolen across several districts of the capital."Sameer, identified as the mastermind, charged up to Rs 1,500 per handset for bypassing security features," said DCP (central) Nidhin Valsan, adding that the tools used to do so were sourced from Bangladesh as well. A total of 42 snatching and theft cases were resolved through arrests.On Tuesday, the police also returned over 1,000 lost mobile phones to citizens at a ceremony held in East of Kailash.More than 70 police teams were deployed for the exercise. The event also included a mass cyber safety awareness campaign focusing on online fraud and the use of the Sanchar Saathi app. Joint CP (Southern Range) SK Jain urged residents to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
