Four injured as LPG cylinder bursts at food stall in Delhi

NEW DELHI: Four people suffered burn injuries after an LPG cylinder burst at a small food stall being run from a house in central Delhi’s Nabi Karim area on Thursday morning. The incident was reported around 9.29am.Personnel from the Delhi Police and Delhi Fire Services (DFS) reached the spot soon after the information was received. Police said the blast occurred in a small ground-floor room of the house that was being used by Sarita (35), who prepared and sold tea and simple meals such as dal-rice.According to preliminary information, Sarita had requested Krishan (37) to replace an LPG cylinder. A sudden fire broke out while the regulator was being opened, news agency PTI reported.All the injured were taken to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital by PCR and CATS ambulances.The injured were identified as Sarita, wife of Ram Sevak, who sustained about 50% burns; Ajay (19), son of Ram Kishan, who suffered around 40% burns; Zakir (35), who sustained nearly 30% burns; and Krishan, who suffered about 40% burn injuries in the incident.Police said Ajay was at the stall to have tea when the incident took place, while Zakir, a resident of Amarpuri, was passing through the area at the time.(With agency inputs)
