NEW DELHI: The alleged terrorist whowas arrested by the police on Wednesday, has been identified as Firdaus AhmedBhatt alias Manzoor (26), a member of Al-Umar. A native of Shorra in the KashmirValley, Manzoor has reportedly been involved in terrorist activities since 1993.He has been sent to three days'' police custody.
Manzoor''s arrest cameclose on the heels of the arrest of a Pakistani spy who had been arrested fromthe CP on Wednesday. Manzoor was nabbed by from the Baba Kharak Singh Marg aftera tip off from the Army Headquarter Liaison Unit.
"He had been inDelhi at least since August last year. We are trying to ascertain why he wastrying to set up a base specifically in the CP area. He was operating from Delhiunder the garb of a shawl dealer," said DCP (New Delhi) AnitaRoy.
Manzoor, along with another person, had reportedly rented a shopfor Rs 50,000 in the Kashmir Handicrafts Expo at the NDMC parking lot on BabaKharak Singh Marg.
Manzoor has reportedly been the group commanderof his terrorist outfit in Shorra region of the valley in 1994.
Hewas arrested in 1994 by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and was released on bail in1996. He was again arrested in 2003 after he and his family were found to havebeen harbouring Bilal, a member of Harkat-ul-Jihadi Islami, said thepolice.
