NDMC rolls back hiked parking rates as GRAP-II is lifted

New Delhi: A day after the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP)-II measures were lifted, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) withdrew the enhanced parking charges at its off-street and multilevel parking facilities. "With the revocation of GRAP-II norms and in line with the Commission for Air Quality Management's order, we rolled back the increased parking rates. POS machines used by attendants have been reset, and visitors are already being charged the previous rates. A file for formal approval has been submitted and will be cleared by Friday," an official said.
Following the rollback, 4-wheeler parking fees at off-street lots such as those in Connaught Place have been reduced from Rs 40 to Rs 20 per hour. Two-wheeler fees were cut from Rs 20 to Rs 10 per hour, while bus parking charges were brought down from Rs 200 to Rs 150 per hour. The council had doubled parking rates on Oct 29 when GRAP-II norms came into force. Officials said on-street parking charges and monthly passes remain unchanged. "Sites like Bengali Market and Pandara Road Market were already charging Rs 50 per hour, so no increase was applied during GRAP-II," an NDMC official said. NDMC currently operates 126 fully functional parking facilities — 99 off-street lots, three multilevel or indoor structures, and 24 on-street sites. Parking rates under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) remain unchanged at its 400 surface lots, as they were not increased during the GRAP-II period.
