A 24-year-old student of a reputed film institute in Pune committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her residence in Maurya Enclave area of northwest Delhi.

NEW DELHI: A 24-year-old student of a reputed film institute in Pune committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her residence in Maurya Enclave area of northwest Delhi on Wednesday. According to the police, the deceased, Gitika, was residing with her family. A senior police official said she was reportedly not able to complete her cinematography course from the institute.
The police said that Gitika was found hanging from the ceiling fan by her father.

"After finding his daughter hanging, he immediately made a PCR call. We reached the spot and later sent her body to DDU Hospital for post-mortem,'' said a police official.
NS Bundela, DCP (northwest), said it is a case of suicide and her parents' statements have been recorded. Gitika's body has been handed over to her family. Further investigations are on.
