Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called Delhi LG Vinai Kumar Saxena from France and enquired about the waterlogging and flood situation in the city, and efforts to deal with it. He gave directions for appropriate steps by taking all possible help from the Central government. Meanwhile, the water level of Yamuna river has decreased to 208.63 meters at 10pm on Thursday. Amid the flooding, the city is staring at drinking water shortage as the govt decided to cut down supply by 25 per cent following the closure of three water treatment plants — Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla — due to the rising level of the Yamuna. Yamuna Flood News: Govt bans entry of heavy goods vehicles in Delhi as Yamuna swells

  • Delhi government has banned the entry of heavy goods vehicles, barring those carrying essentials, in the city from four borders including Singhu as a precautionary measure in view of the rising Yamuna levels, transport minister Kailash Gahlot said on Thursday.
  • Sharing a copy of the order issued by the transport department on Twitter, he said. "Entry of Heavy Goods Vehicles has been banned from Singhu Border, Badarpur Border, Loni Border and Chilla Border as a precautionary measure in view of abnormally rising water level of Yamuna River."

Water rationing will have to be done as 3 water treatment plants are shut and people will face water crisis for a day or two. Heavy vehicles, except those providing essential services, that enter Delhi will not be allowed. There were issues of toilets and bathrooms at relief camps. So, the camps are being shifted to schools.

  • The Pragati Maidan tunnel here has been opened for vehicular traffic after remaining closed for four days due to waterlogging following heavy rainfall in the national capital, police said on Thursday.
  • With many parts of the city under water on Thursday, restrictions were imposed on vehicular movement on some roads, leading to traffic congestion including around Pragati Maidan.
  • "Pragati Maidan Tunnel is now open for vehicular traffic. Commuters are advised to plan their journey accordingly," the Delhi Traffic Police said in a tweet.

We are at the Wazirabad water treatment plant. For the first time in Delhi, Yamuna has touched this level. Three water treatment plants have been shut down due to this as the water has entered pumps & machines. 25% of the water supply in Delhi will go down due to this. The tubewells are closed too. There can be water scarcity for a day or two. I hope that the supply resumes by tomorrow evening.

Traffic advisory issued as Yamuna water rises in Delhi

  • The Delhi Traffic Police on Thursday issued an advisory on the restrictions and regulation of vehicular movement in place owing to the rising water level of the Yamuna river.
  • According to the advisory, the traffic movement has been impaired on Mahatma Gandhi Marg between IP flyover and Chandgi Ram Akhara, Mahatma Gandhi Marg between Kalighat Mandir and Delhi Secretariat, and Outer Ring Road between Wazirabad Bridge and Chandgi Ram Akhara.
  • Non-destined commercial vehicles will not be allowed to enter Delhi and will be diverted to Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressway. The commercial vehicles will be diverted from Mukarba Chowk. No commercial vehicles will be allowed between Mukarba Chowk and Wazirabad Bridge, the advisory stated.
