NEW DELHI: The police arrested a 36-year-old man, who adopted a unique method to steal cars. The accused reportedly sold the financed car to a customer and then stole the same using a second duplicate key, said the police.
The anti-auto theft squad of crime branch also recovered a stolen car from the accused Pradeep Verma. He reportedly obtained loan for financing his car from different banks and later sold the same vehicle.
He cheated the buyers and presented them a forged no-objection certificate, claiming the hypothecation of the car had been cancelled.
Verma would subsequently steal the same vehicle using the second key to lift it.
Verma was arrested on April 3 when he made a call to a police control room van complaining that he had been robbed of his mobile phone and a gold chain near Dhaula Kuan. The police later learnt that it was a quarrel and Verma left the spot after settling the matter. When the police tracked Verma’s residential address in Vasant Vihar, they verified his car number also. The police found the car was stolen from Lajpat Nagar area.
