GHAZIABAD: After a celebratory roadshow was taken out for a rape accused in Ghaziabad following his release on bail from Dasna Jail on Sunday, with supporters showering flowers, carrying him on their shoulders and later forming a convoy of vehicles, police registered an FIR against him and 12 unidentified persons.
The accused, identified as Sushil Prajapati, had been in jail for eight months in connection with a rape case. As he walked out of prison, supporters showered flowers on him and carried him on their shoulders from the jail premises to the main road. A convoy of vehicles then accompanied him towards Muradnagar.
Based on videos received by police, an FIR was registered against Prajapati and 12 unknown persons. The complaint was filed by Sub-Inspector Pradeep Kumar.
Kumar said in his complaint that Sushil was released from jail on bail on May 17. Sushil was in jail in connection with a rape case.
“Outside the jail, Sushil Prajapati and his 10-12 associates welcomed him and obstructed the road, causing considerable inconvenience to passers-by. Thereafter, Sushil Prajapati and his 10-12 unidentified associates drove vehicles recklessly on the road from the jail towards Muradnagar, endangering the lives of the general public and causing them significant hardship,” he said.
Surendra Nath Tiwari, DCP of Rural, said that on the basis of the complaint, an FIR has been registered against Sushil and his 12 associates under 281 (rash driving) and 285 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation) of BNS. We have formed teams to verify the accused, and then we will take action.
On August 8, 2025, an LLB student made a complaint with Muradnagar Police Station alleging that Sushil raped and threatened to kill her.
Police registered an FIR against him under Section 64 (rape), 123 (causing hurt by means of poison etc. with intent to commit an offence), 351(3) (punishment for criminal intimidation), 72 (disclosure of identity of victim of certain offence) and 249 (harbouring offender) of BNS.
Police had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for the arrest of the accused. He was arrested on August 11, 2025 and sent to jail.
