Lifeguard foils suicide attempt at Benaulim beach

Panaji: Drishti lifeguards have foiled another suicide attempt at Benaulim beach. Lifeguard Sumit Velip noticed a 23-year-old man from Odisha walking into the water alone at Benaulim beach. Velip rushed into the water and rescued the man. During the rescue, the man told Velip about his lack of desire to live. Police were informed, and the individual was handed into their care.A similar incident occurred at Betalbatim Beach 11 days earlier when a middle-aged man attempted to rush into the waters after a fight with his partner. A Drishti lifeguard struggled to bring the man back to shore.Lifeguards also rescued a 40-year-old local who ventured out to sea on a kayak on Sunday. The kayak toppled over, leaving the man in distress, said a Drishti Marine lifeguard. On-duty lifesavers reached him with a rescue tube and brought him safely ashore.
