Panaji: The road outside the North Goa collectorate will now be a 'no horn zone' to avoid disturbances to the office which houses several important government agencies like the collector's office, Tiswadi mamlatdars' office, the sub-divisional magistrate's office and the office of several deputy collectors amongst others.
In exercise of powers conferred on North Goa collector Mihir Vardhan under Section 112 and Rule 254 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, he has 'prohibited the drivers of motor vehicles from using any horn, gong or other device for giving audible warning on the stretch of road in front of the collectorate building'.
The stretch of road where honking is now prohibited starts from the office of the deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate up to the end of Menezes Braganza Hall near the Central Library in the jurisdiction of Corporation of the City of Panaji.
Vardhan has further authorized the erection of traffic signboards displaying the sign 'No Horn Zone' at both ends of the stretch of road in order to regulate the motor vehicular traffic.
