7 dacoits held, Rs 98.5k seized in fake notes

Guwahati: Police officers from Basistha police station arrested seven persons, who were preparing to commit dacoity, from city’s Koinadhara area on Sunday night.The arrested persons were identified as Mahammad Ali (37), Jakir Hussain (28), Suruj Ali (49) from Lakhimpur district, Ainul Haque (32) from Sonitpur district, and Allaluddin (41), Amir Hussain (34) and Abul Kasem (37) from Nagaon district.Kapil Pathak, who had led the operation, said the accused were dealing in fake notes. “We intercepted two vehicles with Nagaon and Lakhimpur registrations,” Pathak said.The officer said Rs 98,500 in fake currency notes, 10 mobile phones, and several ID cards and ATM cards were found in their possession.
