Shillong: Meghalaya govt is examining the fiscal transfers recommended under the 16th Finance Commission and their implications for the state’s fiscal capacity and developmental planning. The finance department said the state will take necessary action based on a detailed assessment.

“The state govt expresses its sincere appreciation to the Centre for enhancing the Budget Estimates allocation for FY 2026-27 under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment to Rs 1.85 lakh crore. This support has been instrumental in advancing capital-led development and strengthening infrastructure growth in Meghalaya,” the finance department said.
For FY 2026-27, the Finance Commission has provided Meghalaya with a rural local body grant of Rs 190 crore, an urban local body grant of Rs 49 crore, a state disaster response fund grant of Rs 63 crore, and a state disaster mitigation fund grant of Rs 16.2 crore.
