DIMAPUR: Noting that the Naga society, particularly Dimapur, has been witnessing unprecedented criminal activities in recent years, the
NSCN (Khole-Kitobi) has unanimously resolved to take action against the perpetrators of the crimes.
A cabinet meeting of the faction held on Sunday viewed that the recent black day observed by citizens of Dimapur in protest against criminals threatening Naga society must be supported by all sections of Naga society.
It is a matter of concern that rape and kidnapping for ransom have become too frequent and unless the perpetrators are given exemplary punishment, many Nagas would continue to suffer silently, it stated.
Supporting the initiatives taken by the Naga Council, Dimapur, tribal hohos, the business community, Naga mothers and student bodies to root out criminals from Naga society, the faction stated that stern action must be taken against the perpetrators irrespective of organization or community affiliations.
"Any person, be it a member of NSCN or public, if arrested and proven to have indulged in rape or kidnapping for ransom, shall be liable for the highest degree of punishment," a statement issued by the outfit stated. It added that the worst crime demands worst punishment and the NSCN would do all it can to ensure Naga society remains free from rapists and kidnappers.
