Dibrugarh: A man from Cuttack in Odisha, accused in multiple fraud cases, attempted suicide inside the Borbari Police Outpost in Dibrugarh on Tuesday. The incident occurred shortly after his arrest by a joint team of Odisha and Dibrugarh police, after months on the run.The man in his late 40s, identified as Prashant Paul, allegedly defrauded several people by promising to double their investments within a short period. According to police, Paul collected substantial sums from multiple victims in Odisha through false investment schemes. When he failed to return the promised funds, a complaint was lodged against him at the Cuttack Police Station in Jan this year.Following the complaint, Paul reportedly went into hiding, moving across cities — first to Kolkata, then Guwahati, and finally settling in Dibrugarh three months ago.
